Shuchi's Wedding and Vihaan
Posted on May 14, 2015
A fortnight ago, we had the privilege of attending the wedding of one of my childhood friends, Shuchi. One of the bigger sadnesses of growing up and moving away is that you lose touch with the people that were a huge part of your childhood. In some ways, it makes attending these milestone events extra special.

The ceremony was traditionally Indian, except the priest conducted much of it in English making it easier for the Americans in the audience (like me!) to follow the proceedings.

Shuchi and Utpal couldn’t have planned for better weather or a prettier venue. The tulip beds at the main entrance were the top photo spot.
Sure there was a wedding, but the bus ride might have been the best

One of the more touching moments of the night were these singers. The man in the middle promised Shuchi that he’d sing this song at her wedding when they were 6!
A nearly three decade old promise being kept
The other festivities were fun, the food was good, and the ceremony was beautiful, but if we’re going to be honest with ourselves, we all know the real reason we go to Indian weddings…

I guess we’ll have to leave the Enchanted Castle for the next time everyone’s in Chicago.
When you revisit the place that you used to call home for just a few weekend, it’s inevitable that you’ll have a few regrets. There were a lot of people we couldn’t meet, but thankfully we got the opportunity to spend time with my cousin and his family.

Mira and Vihaan got along great and really enjoyed playing together. Vihaan was very sweet and did a great job of sharing his toys. Mira found a throne and setup court.
The adults had fun, too. We ate our Chicago favorite Lou Malnati’s Pizza, caught up on our lives, and watched the kids play.
